Question 1

This blog is about media conventions of a opening sequence, for our opening sequence and for the opening sequences of other films.

Conventions of a opening sequence

Obscuring information

In this video we see the opening to brick in all the shots the convention of obscuring information is used, this is because we are shown very little information about this character, this has been chosen because it wants to make the audience ask questions, who is he? why he is the only character that we've been introduced to?

Another example of Obscuring information is shown through this opening sequence of memento, in this clip it does a similar thing to brick were it shows us bits of the character but doesn't show us him in full detail this also makes the audience ask question about, who is this character? and what is he doing?

Introducing a few characters

This is a extreme close up of the victim in the sequence of Wallander who got attacked this shot allows the audience to know that this is the victim of the attack.
This shot is a close up of one of the characters in Memento in this sequence we don't properly get introduced to this character but we know he's a main protagonist.
This is a low angle shot which is the first shot in the opening sequence of memento were we properly get introduced to this character this is a convention of a opening sequence because it has introduced us to the main character.
This shot is a two shot which allows the audience to finally see these two characters faces which allow us to see their emotions and feelings in the situation that their in.
This is a mid close up of one of the main protagonist from the opening sequence of the sixth sense, this shot allows the audience to ask questions about this character, who is he? what is his role in the film?

In this mid long shot we see a female protagonist who looks like she's in a seller, when we get introduced to this character it makes the audience ask questions in that, how is this character linked with the film? and who is this character?

Production and distribution company

In a opening sequence it has the distribution and production company logos before the titles come on, in this sequence of the sixth sense it shows the distribution company which Hollywood pictures and the production company which is Spyglass Entertainment.

In the opening sequence of the dark knight it shows us the distribution company which is Warner Bros. Pictures then the production company which is Legendary Pictures this is a convention of a opening sequence because it allows the audience to see the distribution company and the production company.

In our opening sequence we used similar conventions to give it an extra effect and to give it more meaning.

Conventions of our thriller opening sequence

Slow paced editing

In this video all of the shots are    slow paced this is a convention of a opening sequence because it allows the audience to see the location in more detail, also it gives them a more understanding of whats going on in the sequence.

Close ups and eerie music

In the video it has the close ups of the notes which the main protagonist has on his board whilst the closeups are on screen there is the eerie music which is being played, this is a convention of a opening sequence because its giving the audience a lack of information to work with and also the eerie music creates the effect on the audience in that it makes them feel that something isn't right and the music helps the audience to have these feelings.

Production and distribution company

In every film at the start there is the production company logo and the distribution company logo. For ours we had the same our production company is Psycho Productions and our distribution company is Vertigo films. This is a convention of a opening sequence because it allows the audience to see our distribution company and the production company.

Props

We used the conventions of props in our thriller opening sequence. We used this convention because it allows the audience to know more about the characters and settings just by the props which are chosen to be added in the thriller opening sequence.

These are more images of props which we included in our thriller opening sequence these props allow the audience to know a bit more information about these two characters.

Obscuring information

In these images it has the shots of the main Protagonist but we wanted to use the convention of obscuring information, so with all the shots which show the main protagonist we made sure
that the audience couldn't see his face, this convention is effective because it makes the audience want to watch it so they find out more about the character.
